The Lion Park - where the lions roar!

Now nothing makes you feel more like you're in Africa than the sound of lions roaring.  And how lucky we are, as close to home, somewhere between Johannesburg and Hartbeespoort, is "The Lion Park".

The park is not a zoo, it is not a game reserve but rather a sanctuary that concentrates on the well-being and regeneration of the White Lion, Cheetah, the endangered Wild dog and other species.  Going to The Lion Park is a real treat for animal lovers, a place where we can play with the lion cubs and feed the giraffe.  While we were there, the staff were moving some of the cubs from one cage to another, I couldn't help noticing the relationship between one of the staff and the cubs. Their faces tell the story better than I can.

Playing with the cubs is one of those special moments, they are very laid back and don't seem to mind. But remember, lions are wild - they will eat you!  The giraffe, ostrich, and
meerkat were all entertainers in their own right.

If you are travelling from far, you can stay over at The Wildside Tented Camp. Come to think about it, as locals we should all spend a night under the African sky, enjoying a braai and a glass of wine, while the sun sets and the lions roar.
